This is the first of two blogs I’m writing on the this Solar Eclipse for Oct. 23, 2014 at 2:57 PM PDT. In the first section I’ll post my intro to how I view Solar Eclipses. Tomorrow I’ll post my interpretation of what I see in the Solar Eclipse Chart for Los Angeles, CA.
I like to close my eyes and imagine I’m in a world with no light pollution. I like to think of what it would be like to look at the pristine night time sky and be engrossed by a visual cacophony of light. Growing up in Denver I had my share of wondrous nights but being a city boy I didn’t have nearly enough of those nights as it would require a trip to the mountainside or eastern plains. Our ancestors never had to travel far to catch a captivating backdrop of the night time stars above. It was their flat screen TV and it supplied them with infinite evolving stories where the planets were metaphorically their Stars(Actors) and the constellations the set and setting of where they acted out their drama. Very close observation of this celestial drama is where our Astrology comes from. Our ancestors were in tune with cycles, which allowed them to predict upcoming themes in the sky’s story but never was the plot or the setting exactly the same. That’s why it’s easy for me to imagine the effect Solar Ellipses had on their psyche. Simply put, a solar eclipse is when the Moon is aligned with our view of the Sun so that it temporary blocks the Sun’s light. When a Solar Eclipse happened essentially our ancestors were watching their life giving light source (Sun) get over shadowed and almost entirely consumed by darkness. “What if the Sun didn’t survive?,” They would fear. These times were ripe with superstitions (not unlike today with our “end of the world” myths) based on observing this terribly dramatic transformation happen 2-3 times a year over the course of centuries. Seeing the Sun getting consumed by darkness = bad and scary. But there’s nothing like a fearful life-threatening event to make a person reassess their current life path and put them on the fast track to what they should be doing and thus we have the root of our astrological meaning of the Solar Eclipses. In essence, eclipses are chapters that push the plot of our life forward. A reminder that we need to take stock of what’s going on and work to make the most of the time we have left. These sentiments still reside in our psyche today. With astrology we can add guidance through symbolic meaning of eclipses and not make them merely this scientific thing that is both cold and distant from us. We are the cosmos and we are part of natural cycles and an acceptance of astrology is an acknowledgement of that wisdom. Just like a well done movie from the Hollywood "silver screen” can inspire us to integrate life changing insights or open us up to new ways thinking, astrology, the original "silver screen," gives us access to transformational wisdom. By studying external cycles we gain knowledge about our internal cycle and our role as part of all of this.
The lunar eclipse is upon us and right in the heat of a grand fire Trine. Below I give a quick description on what this eclipse means for us. Let me start by listing the important aspects of this event chart. The lunar eclipse is exact on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 3:51am PDT:
Sun 15 degrees of Libra opposite Moon at 15 degrees of Aries
Uranus Conjunct the Moon at 14 degrees of Aries, which means it’s also in opposition to the Sun
The Nodes of the Moon are near the eclipse; The North Node at 19 degrees Libra and South node at 19 degrees of Aries
The Grand Fire Trine is in effect and activated with Mars in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries
Mercury retrograding back into Libra at 1 degree Scorpio
The Sun in Libra is Sextile Mars at 15 degrees of Sagittarius
Venus is almost conjunct the Sun at 10 degrees of Libra
There’s a lot of Fire and Cardinal energy tied to this event and all this energy is wired into each other! If you have anything stimulated in your chart by these events it’s going involve the sudden and unexpected. Life leading up the the eclipse will be emotionally charged and we will be called to question the correct approach at navigating everything from accidents, mistakes or sudden changes while at the same time giving light to our personal calling. We will be forced to reconcile our old fiery emotions with a more personal, balanced and pleasant approach to how we show ourselves to the world. We should have enough fuel to fire through these major transformations but it won’t be smooth sailing. Expect mistakes (more like fires) to show up when you least expect it as Mercury is in retrograde. It will be important that you put those fires out as quickly (and emotionality even keel) as possible so you can go back to expressing the Sun, North Node, Venus area of your chart. To figure out what this eclipse means for you first check out the two houses that Sun and Moon fall and analyze what those houses represent for you. Please note that the North Node, Sun and Venus part of the chart are the lessons we need to be learning and embodying. The South Node, Moon and Uranus part of the chart is going to be where distractions come in an attempt to take you away from the North Node lessons. Also, look at your chart between 14-17 degrees of any fire signs to see if you are effected by the trine. Note the houses the current fire trine falls into in your chart. What do those houses mean and if any planets are aspected know that major leaps forward in progress are available to you but yo must be willing to take action (Mars) in these areas. Just know that the action, expansion and the unexpected are to be expected at this time for the next few takes watch how these themes play out for you.
